Himself's bizarre schedule always has me ahead or behind of myself, so I was thinking I was on day 7 and did a brief candle tonight. - Brief, bc I realized as I started that it wasn't what I was supposed to be doing yet. But I was turning them anyway so a quick peak wouldn't hurt. 😁
Doing so brought some reassurance & some new concerns. Raising humidity seems to have aided the brittle shells and they feel much firmer and smoother.
I was harboring a panic because when they arrived, I was expecting air cells & there were none. Thankfully, some form of aircell was in place tonight. Some form bc I didn't spend a lot of time turning and examining. There's a reason for that.
Most have some veining. A cpl I thought had partial blood rings but they ended with branched veins, so we shall see.
I didn't do any weighing tonight - did upon arrival. What concerned me and made me be brief was while candling, most seemed ...jiggly? Like there was a layer of liquid and the yolk was below it, in the smaller end. So even though they have veining, I'm concerned these are most likely to fail?
I'm still keeping them upright in crates and just "turning" by tipping from side to side. I've seen debate abt not turning and leaving upright, but that seems unwise?
If they're bound to fail, I hope it's quick bc I'm taking a roadtrip to @sunnie7 s & begging for a referral!

There is nothing wrong with leaving them upright in the cartons and switching the elevated end of the carton. I have had keets hatch with the eggs upright.

I understand that jiggly aircell are common in shipped eggs. They can supposedly reattach or present a problem… One of my hen incubated then incubator incubated eggs from my recent (and ongoing) hatch had the most bizarre air cell - I wish I’d taken a picture! The aircell was on the side wall of the egg, towards the narrow end! At lockdown, I put the egg in a piece of egg carton with the narrow end kind of up amd the air cell side kind of up. Then other keets hatched and knocked it around… 🤦‍♀️ I was sure it wouldn’t hatch, but it did! It pipped towards the large end, barely at the edge of the strange aircell. I could see it needed help so I took off the rest of the large end, and it’s feet stuck out the open end! It was humorous and so bizarre!

You all have permission in the future to tell me to just chill out, stop panicking,go watch the videos again & reorientate myself w/the differences between a newly fertilized egg and one abt to hatch. That's what I did this a.m.
If I had a comic strip of myself receiving new eggs, I would be muttering "where's the air cell, where's THE AIR CELL??? OMG why is it down there?!!"🤦‍♀️
After reviewing I recandled, the air cells are where they should be. They just aren't yet huge shining beacons announcing their presence. One has a bit of saddlebag but is not lying on bottom of egg. Likewise, a couple do still have some jiggling.
I'm pretty sure 3 weren't fertilized but have not removed them. 2 look like partial blood rings, but as I said, they have veins, so perhaps just haven't branched out yet, so have not removed them either.
One was cracked on arrival, 2 apparently had hairline cracks bc they started weeping. one I dropped - and kicked myself bc it was a beauty as far as development. So of 18, 4 pitched, 3 highly unlikely, and 2 questionable. The rest are veining up nicely, and my misguided panic was thinking the the clear bottom was the air sack.🙄

Really fresh eggs should have an air cell that is almost unnoticeable.
