It definitely took longer than expected to get the coop up- especially after the poor weather we've been having. But sunny days are now here and the coop is nearing completion! My chicks are growing so big so fast- I'm excited, and i know they will be happy, to have bigger living quarters! There's still work that needs done but (hopefully) within the week the chicks will be in!
Being a paranoid first timer I know I overdid it a bit (whoops). But knowing my chicks are safe, warm and happy makes it well worth the extra effort (and money). My family owns a lumber yard/hardware store so most of the materials are rejects that didn't sell (helped with costs as well). I repurposed the windows and most of what goes inside will be repurposed as well. It's coming together nicely! What's left to be done is- adding the rest of the windows, making chicken doors, finish insulating and walling, lay boxes and perches. The run will be built the week of "coop training". The end is in sight!
