Watch your RH.. The A/C tends to dry it out somewhat... Will
Thanks! That's what I am looking at, for sure. Right now, my regular hygrometer (which, I figure, if it's off then at least it is consistent hatch-to-hatch) is reading at about 28%. I'm going to candle early to see how this humidity is impacting the air cells. I was at 35% for my last hatch, and the air cells were a bit too small.

Sending good hatching vibes your way!!!
Chicken expense spreadsheet????

Do I really want to know how much I am spending on my chicken hobby???? I'm thinking the answer is no........

I need all the good vibes I can get! As for the spreadsheet, I used it for a few months until I finished my 8'x8' coop. At that point, I was so deep in the hole, I decided that I was never getting out and I didn't want to know.

It's a hobby. At least I can sell eggs to pay for the feed.

I wish I had something hatching. I have started setting eggs every weekend so I will have some hatching every weekend. Well at least till July when I plan to shut the bator off:/ well that is the plan anyway!!

Well, the incubator (new Genesis 1588) is holding steady at about 99.8* and 28% humidity. I'd usually hold off on candling until day 7, but I think I'll check air cells in a few on day 4 in case I need to adjust. I took initial weights as well, although the two times that I monitored this throughout incubation, there was no correlation between the % weight loss and which eggs hatched. No idea why. Maybe it will be more helpful this time... My broody is sitting tight on her 4 eggs. I put her outside this afternoon for her daily spa, and she got back on the right nest! Yes! Just 20 days left to go.

I have been lucky and been able to sell or give away most chicks. I have a "mud" room in my house we are not using so I turned it into a nusery for chickens. I have 3 brooders in here. I just found a old horse/cow water trough in one. Of the barns at our family and it will fit just perfectly I. The space in the mud room so I will have that for the large fowl then I will use the 3 other brooders for bantams and I just got an old fish tank for the Serama/silkies to put in the living room so I can keep a better eye on them. For the 1st week or two. Dh isn't too thrilled but I told him I could just put fish in it instead of chicks and he said ok to the chicks.;)

I sold a 10 month tom last week and the buyer was trying to sell me pea fowl! They are one of the most beautiful birds, I think I have had a special place in my heart for them since I was a kid. 3 eggs were offered on the Crazy 24hour action and it was torture for 24 hours!! Then this woman is offering pea chicks, when they hatch, as she has 6 eggs cooking. I'm in trouble. THey are so loud--I have too many animals to have a loud mouth. ANd pea fowl are loud. If they are not please don't tell me!!!!!!

they're screamers....

Well I'm excited because my first time broody is still on my eggs. She was broody for 2 1/2 weeks before I 'set' them so I'm worried she'll break before they are out, but I have an incubator ready if I need to use one.

Of course my husband is going to be confused cause he knows I set them last weekend but he's coming home to chicks in the dinning room tonight and he'll think wow that was a fast hatch. LOL just wait til 2 weeks from now when the others actually do hatch.

Shoot! Todays the set date for chicken eggs! I dont think Im going to be able to set any. Just not right timing.

Have fun everyone! Ill still be tuning in!
