The Fathers Day Hatch-A-Long!!! The Last Day To Set eggs Is June 3rd!!!!

. Then you don't want any macaws or cockatoos they not only talk but scream and imiatate pigs. I was talking to my neighbor the other day and told her I sold the 2 noisey male chinese geese and she was happy until I told het the macaws were coming out for the spring and she made a face. My poor neighbors. But we do live in the country.

The exotic birds are beautiful, but the noise is too much for me. No macaws, no cockatoos, When my old dog died I missed him for about a week, the constant barking I didn't miss. He wasn't always a barker, it developed in his senile years.

I do try to keep the noise down . I do like the quiet, to hear birds singing and buzzing of bumble bees.

we have a Congo African Grey and a Green Cheek Conure
both talk (though the grey puts the conure to shame).. neither one are screamers.. we broke the grey of that bad habit when he was still hand feeding
He does imitate EVERYTHING... except for the mini donkey's braying.... so far...

lol.. he does have a comment for everything and has to contribute to every conversation.. he's extremely opinionated too

yeah.. to me they are worse.. a screaming peafowl can sound like a woman being murdered!

Great then the cockatoo would imitate the peafowl, he loves to squeal like a pig to get my attention. We let a 4- h kid keep her pig at our place one year at it squealed bloody murder when we were loading it into the trailer for the fair  great the neighbor must think we are keeping pigs over here. The scarlet macaw spent too much time hanging around the construction workers who were working on our house for a year so now he swears in English and Spanish. Then he tells himself 'NO Paris bad bird don't say that"

I guess I'll just hatch the peacock eggs and give them to my friend .

Quote: I have noticed that the more I candle or handle the eggs for that matter, more get broken. I dropped a blue egg from my Blue Ameraucana and it hit another egg. I tossed both. I already turn all the eggs by hand 3 times a day--lots of chances for butter fingers. I do candle occasionally, taking a sample, and tossing clears at lockdown.

Quote: I continue to be amazed by the number of animals that rival or nearly rival humans. Sounds like the Grey needs his 15 minutes of fame on the Jay Leno Show!!

I love greys ours got when someone left the catch door to the aviary open. I almost caught him on the chicken coop when the rooster flew over and scared him. I noticed the conures try hard to talk but they just can't get the words out like the bigger birds. We have a caique that says everything the big birds say but it's hard to tell make it out sort of like listening to a little kid.

I like tha your grey has an opinion about everything, they are cheeky buggers.

Yeah I'm a fumble finger, someone on here sorry I can't remember said they candle by setting the light on top of the egg, not taking it out of the turner. That's what I have been doing.

When I was setting my 1st batch of 100+ I set for this hatch I fumbled the ONE egg that didn't belong I me. Ughhhh. My friend brought me some scovy and Peking duck eggs to set that he got from a friend and they had found 1 bantam egg in the pen where there were not supposed to be any bantams and no pullets so he asked me to set it o they could see what it was and which bird was sneaking over to the duck pen. Talk about feeling like an idiot. Yep200+ eggs safe and secure in my incubator just not your one,.

Oooo me too! I just put a paltry 8 eggs under a broody on Sat the 26th, but since this is only my second time hatching I'm quite proud. Four barred olive eggers, 2 lav Orps, 2 BLRW.

My incubator is full again. I have several things going. This week I have turkey eggs that will be going on lock down. Whats a girl to do when you have 2 incubators going and you have to layer them in? I guess start working on buying a larger incubator..

Our grey has a very extensive vocabulary .. it got to where we canceled HBO because he was learning... inappropriate things
Whenever I pick up a chick and it fusses he will yell at me "leave it alone!!" then coo to the baby bird.."awww baby.. what's the matter.. huh.. you ok?"

My husband keeps saying he's going to set up a camera.. never does

it took him all of 10 seconds to learn the new cat's name.. now he keeps calling the cat and telling him to come here.. problem is the cat still hasn't learned his name.. *sighs*

here's our brat

Takes extra watching when you change the method. Some people put in a small tupperware type container with a hole to leak moisture over a long time. Many ways to increase %RH if you need to. When is the next candling?
I was thinking I'd wait until day 4 and see where they are. (I wish there was a *nail biting* smilie on here!)
