Hello BYC friends! I have my EE rooster named BIG E who had his tail feathers pulled off by an older agressive rooster back in january. Please tell me he is going to grow them back! :(

I see a bunch of feather nubs. Until those fall out at molt, he will not grow new feathers. Once they fall out, he will grow in new tail feathers.

But, why is the skin still so red? That isn't right.

I would worry that another chicken keeps chewing on him... or there are parasites (mites or lice or both) that are irritating the skin.

Not sure which... your pictures are good, but no clear telltale signs one way or another... except for the red skin that shows something is going on.

Give him a super close inspection for lice and mites . Both of those critters are tiny and difficult to see. Lice like the vent area best. Mites live on the perches and come out at night to feast on the birds.

Also watch closely, especially when all chickens are going to bed.... see if one of the others are chewing on him.

Once you figure out the cause... you can fix it. :old
