Hi all, new to this chicken stuff. I’ve got 27 girls that are 22 weeks tomorrow,still no eggs! I have them on a diet of alfalfa, grain, and in the evening I give then scratch grains. I also started them on layer feed when they were 18 weeks. Am I doing anything wrong? They seem happy and healthy & content. Maybe I’m just being impatient

Just be patient one of mine laid at 21 weeks. Then the others- 2 at 23, 1 at 24, 2 at 25, 1 at 26. I still have 1 24 week and 2 28 week girls not laying.

View attachment 1154769 View attachment 1154771 One of my FBCM laid her first! I didn't even know because it was under the roost instead of in one of the nesting boxes she's been trying to push other girls out of. I'm hoping it'll get darker. The kids think the speckles on it are cool.

Well my EE started laying a couple weeks ago, and she lays brown eggs, not colored ones! We were disappointed, but sometimes they are speckled so that's cool. Most importantly, they're delicious . Now I'm impatiently waiting for my younger two to start laying. They are around 21 weeks, a BO and an Australorp, and they are just now getting red on their faces. I'm wondering if it's the difference between reaching that age in the middle of summer and at the beginning of fall

You are so sweet. Eggs make good eating no matter what the size, shape or color don't they? I really enjoy pickling them and sharing them with our grandchildren.

Woo hoo got our first egg today. All I know is that it came from either our Barred Rock, White Brahma, Silver Laced Wyandotte or our Australorp. Woo hoo!!!! It was a light peachy brown

I totally agree. Had some hard boiled for breakfast today, nice bright yellow yolks were very delicious!
