The first (fake) spring thaw

Today it’s almost lovely, up in the 40’s with glimpses of sun. After a winter during which we had over a month straight below freezing, and a few too many days and nights well below zero, 40 feels tropical. The snow is melting, and the ducks are loving life! Happy fake spring to all!

Glad you and your ducks are having a break from the winter cold. Is the white mudcovy the duck you talked about a couple of years ago? My white muscovy drake hates water so nice to see your girl in the water bathing!!

It has been a brutal winter this year, which seems even worse because recent winters have been fairly mild. We have three or four days now with highs between 45 and 65, so I've been out working on some landscaping to get ready for building new coop space for this year's new chickens.

I'm feeling the Spring vibes today too...FAKE Spring..Tomorrow is going to be 70, and then wednesday's low is going to be 27..How??!! As they say about the Midwest area..."if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes."

Thank you! Yes, it’s been incredibly lovely to be outside without needing a million layers. Indeed, that is the same lady Muscovy. She’s going to be 8 years old later this spring! I’m very thankful that she enjoys bathing, as she also enjoys mud as much as any other duck, and she would otherwise be as brown as her Rouen sisters and daughters! She’s never been overly waterproof, so I stop her from swimming when it is overly cold. In the worst parts of winter, she gets a bit gross. However, she whitens back up with a bath or two, as good as new! Anyways, how are you and how is your flock?

I’m so glad you’ve been able to get out too! It must be exciting planning for new flock members. My crew has been steady at 7 since the “babies” hatched almost two wars ago, and 7 seems like a good limit.
However, I can’t say that I haven’t been tempted by the Metzer catalogue…

Ooh, 70 sounds like heaven! Enjoy it while you can! We will maybe hit 60 on Tuesday, and then suffer the same fate as you later in the week. However, it’s so much better than -20, so I won’t complain!
