The fiscal cliff

The government makes it out to be something horrid like the need to bail out companies using the peoples hard earned money.BAILOUT COMPANIES in a capitalistic socitey. How insane is that???? I thought it was a sink or swim, but I guess not if you know the right butts to kiss.

Make it something horrible, and then pass whatever laws they need to pass to benefit themselves. It isn't about making things better for the average citizen. Those days are long gone if they ever even existed. Our government is big business, and the name of the game is profit for its members till it all falls apart .Democracy?Yeah right.

Hostess was a perfect example. The CEO made 150,000 A MONTH while he cut workers wages by 8%.Then when the company finally falls apart they ask for a 1.8 million payout to the higher ups,and wow the judge agrees to it. Why didn't the judge give that money to the 18,000 hostess workers who lost their jobs? Well because this country is run by big business and those workers sure did not help the judge.Maybe that CEO gave the judge a gift. Whatever happened the judge OKed the payout and the money stayed with all the LOSERS who scammed and ruined the company for their personal profit. They have their millions and will move on to the next company to fleece.THIS IS AMERICA TODAY.

Ever watch 16 Trillion and counting? Eye opener.Ofcourse now it is what 18 trillion? Our government borrows just to function daily. It is like borrowing on one credit card to pay another. They make no changes to their spending.Oh but they put on a good show for the public eye don't they?!?!?!

Still give those raises and vacations too. What happens eventually to the average person who lives beyond their means? Eventaully they lose. Governments go bust too.America is no immune to failure.Until that time the government will keep taxing the people more and more. The elite and the serfs.

Without doing the research, I don't believe that the deficit will be cut in half.

That said, I'll be paying an extra $3,500 to $4,000 at tax time this year as compared to last. I wouldn't mind paying it if I knew that meaningful cuts were going to be made. It's like giving extra money to an alcoholic cousin who you know is going to spend it on booze.

If you cut all discretionary spending, Dept of energy, all of defense, etc... and only had the mandatory spending, service to the debt, soc sec, and medicare, we'de still be running a deficit.
So true! If the money was being used wisely I don't mind the taxes, but it IS like giving an addict cash that they turn around and spend on booze,crack,meth......in this case greed for a life a leisure and excess.

Why couldn't we easily fire the politicians for not doing the job we want them to respresent us? It is not easy as your boss can fire you at the blink of an eye.

Something to consider, and not to be a main talking point or change the direction of discussion, a deal could be reached in the weeks to come that would retroactively impact everyone. There will still be somewhat of an impact with things like milk prices and the "dairy cliff" but for the most part the "fiscal cliff" is mostly symbolic... I wouldn't be surprised the least for them to go past the deadline and write in retroactive breaks later.

Since you mentioned that, I would wait and see what I would get out of them but for the old ones, I sure would fire all of them!

So you don't know what you want them to do but you want them to do something ?

I would like to see them do nothing about the so called cliff. I don't think a cliff is a good name for it, I think of it more as a first step in getting out of a hole. The taxes and spending cuts will slow down the digging the hole deeper.

And that's what probably what will happen. They may even announce that they have a deal before the deadline and actually pass it after the first of the year.

Yes, and those same banks that WE bailed out...know what they call people who pay all their bills on time and pay their credit cards monthly so as not to rack up interest? DEADBEATS. Yes, it is a fact and not a rumor.
