The Forgotten Dog's Christmas Poem

For me at least, this is more a message about how a dog should be a part of a family's life, rather than embraced as a cute puppy, but once that new puppy smell wears off (the novelty), and size and/or training issues begin to surface, he/she is shoved outside and forgotten about.
For me, it's not an "outdoor" vs "indoor" dog thing either, as I've seen outdoor dogs that were given lots of attention/love, played with, worked with, and walked with faithfully, just as I've known indoor dogs that practically lived their lives shut up in a crate because the owner either didn't want to make time to interact with the dog or claimed the dog was just too unruly to be out of the crate.
But the Christmas gift message is a wonderful reminder that it's never a good idea to acquire a pet as a gift on a whim...

*wipes tears* I love my dog!

Shouldn't there be an international dog day???
