I have never seen a chicken like that. He's cool! What kind is he?

Sultan. We got him at Atwoods. When we got him we had no idea what he was, because he had 5 toes and a fluffy head, but he dint have black skin. I found out what he was when he got older. @BY Bod I've got lots of strange chickens. Do you now what bubbles in chicks eyes mean? I've two with it and there quarantined.

It can mean 2 different things. If it was just one hen I would suggest first that you look at maybe something in her eye. You can rinse her eye to try and remove whatever is in it although many times something gets lodged in their eye lids and needs to be removed.

The second reason is much more serious and it's contagious, Mycoplasma infection. Since two of them have it I would lean in that direction. Are they sneezing at all or do they have any respiratory discharge?

Can you take them to a vet? Are your chickens pets or livestock?

Mycoplasma can result in blindness if untreated. If it is Mycoplasma you will need to treat to pretect them from blindness and to keep it from spreading.

Sorry just got out of school. I got the pic. Ecsuse the hay string, I had it tied hp on his leg so he could not get away from me. His feet an legs have turned blue, and he's very beautiful.

Only the bubbles in their eyes. I was thinking Mycoplasma gallisepticum. I have been wiping the bubbles out. The chickens are my breeders so livestock. Is there a way to organically take care of it. I'd like to keep all my chickens organic.

I don't think any vet will take them in. Know one would help our goats.

If it is Mycoplasma they will carry it for life. Antibiotics only control the outbreaks. You could try rinsing their eyes to see if they both got into something and that it's not Mycoplasma.

You cannot give them away without telling someone why. You could be exposing their whole flock to Mycoplasma and that would not be ethical.

I hate to write this because all of my chickens are pets. My brothers flock has 1 hen with Mycoplasma and he views his as pets like I do. The poor hen lost her sight in one eye before he figured out what was going on. He has kept her and periodically treats her outbreaks. In 2 years it has not spread.

I am loath to say this but frankly I think in most livestock operations they would simply cull the birds in question to be safe. Especially if you are wishing to stay organic. If it were to spread you could eventually have your entire flock infected.

Before doing anything that permanent might I suggest you post on the Emergencies / Diseases / Injuries and Cures forum and be very specific about the advise you are looking for, livestock, organic, etc. There may be an organic solution of which I am not aware that they may suggest you could try.

I wish I had a better solution for you. Perhaps someone else does.

There is no vaccine that I am aware of. Someone on the Emergencies forum may know of something which I don't.
