Happy Friday from south FL! After doing as much research as we could stand my husband and I are picking up 'our girls' tomorrow morning after spending days prepping and building our coop and run. I decided on 4 RIR's to start but may have gotten talked into potentially a couple of French marans and an Ameraucana by the breeder. We shall see There are not too many reliable breeders around here but I'm happy to be buying somewhat local, if you consider 1 1/2 hours local...

Fortunately for us we don't have too many neighbors and can free range our hens for part of the day. However, predators are all around us it seems in every form so we've kind of over prepped. The forums have been SUPER helpful in getting us started and I can tell we may expand beyond 4 hens. Will post pics soon!

Welcome to BYC. You can never "over prep" enough against predators. Just when you think you've built Ft Knox, a predator proves you wrong. In my case...snakes.

I agree with Dawg, regarding predators. .

If you get all your breeds at the same time, you will only have to go through the integration process between old and new birds once.
