My husband is building the Garden Coop after purchasing the plan and hardware. Here is what he has done so far. He did some modifications to fit our environment/weather here in California.
We have four RIR/Orpington pullets.

Beautiful! I've considered that plan and the Garden Loft. How has the assembly gone? And how long did it take to get that far? Great job!

It's very nice looking, looks like DH is doing a good job with the building. One thing I'd add to it is some hardware cloth to reinforce that chicken wire.

Nice build, large overhangs, dig apron and well built. Just a note that chicken wire is not predator proof, I assume it will slow some predators down but a raccoon can tear through it given enough time. If they are locked up in the coop at night it's probably not an issue.

Love it! I looked at these plans, too, and really liked them. The only reason I didn't go for these plans was materials. I *kinda* based mine off this design, but I made mine walk-in. This is turning out much nicer than mine, though. Your big ol' overhang is going to be handy on rainy days like today. Good job to your hubby!

We want to buy the Garden Coop plans too. We're a beginner DIY with no construction experience. Any advice you can offer for beginners?

We're in SoCal and get hot summers.
What kind of roof are you using and where did you buy it?

What kind of wood? Pressure treated? Where did you get the wood? Did you stain, paint it before you built the frame? I like the color.

Did you screw the wood to the cinder blocks? If yes, how? We get the Santa Ana winds and the can be quite powerful.

Is it easy to make modifications?

I'm asking so many questions because we want to have a rough idea as to what we will be doing before we embark on this coop building.

Anyone other suggestions, advice including seasoned builders is welcomed.

Thank you.
