We live in the woods and we get our trash picked up every tuesday.. I keep it on my lawnmower card so i can get it to the curb on tuesdays .I just pull it with riding mower to there...
anyway... one night son said something was in the garbage..
sure enough.. 2 ( TWO) raccons ripping thru my bags.. ( I even use contractor bags from home depot)Husband went around the house with AR-15 at the ready( ar15 is chambered in 9 mm tho) they took off..
NOT 1 hour later a possum was in the garbage. Here he goes again..this time a shotgun.. it took off..
They never came after my chickens tho.. really odd..
I dont like either of those pests.
ohh one more.. really odd tho..
Around 3 in the afternoon last summer I seen a racoon on my fenceline.I am thinking how odd is that. He seen me and started hissing or growling at me walking towards me.. I go into the house and get the .22 (husband was overseas and i didnt know where the other bullets where for the other guns). I go back outside and yell at it.. he runs up a tree chattering like mad at me. I aim.. kinda missed him first time. bellyshot.. crapp.. so I reload.. ( boltaction, I didnt find the mag for it)
I look thru the scope and he is pulling on a rope or something, just chattering away. Very odd.. I look to see how i can put him out of his misery fast .He is sitting in a treefork pretty high up. Now I see what he is doing. He has his intestines in his mouth pulling on them.. whatever part he had is now dangling around 6 feet of the tree and he is pulling his own guts out. I was just in awe.. I made sure he went downfast tho .I usualy do not miss with a scoped .22 but he was moving.I felt bad he didnt go down right away. But that was the oddest thing I have ever seen .He sat there and pulled his own guts out of him and chewed on it.
I think maybe he had rabies for beeing out at 3 in the afternon so close to me.. No fear at first. Even my big 17 lbs main coon confronted him and he didnt retreat at first..
Really glad you got em but as a firearms saftey instructor, please PLEASE get a diferent gun for shooting into the air. A shot gun would have been better here. Even if you hit the coon, a 30-30 has so much more power than shot that the bullet will go right through the coon and go for 1-2 miles. If you miss one, even up to 3 miles. You will not know where it comes down or what it might hit as it comes down.
