Ive read a couple of posts where people have shared that their beloved goose/ geese have munched on an equally beloved plant or veggie. And by munched, I mean devoured.

I wanted to start a thread where we can share similar stories and laugh about it (after we've calmed down) because, after all, its what geese do

So share your story before you learned your lesson about protecting a favored foliage!!

Here's mine (so far): Goose ate my corn seedlings.

I had recently planted some seeds of corn & was so excited that they sprouted. I had them in containers on a table outside. We had to repair one of our gutters in anticipation of a major storm, and of course, my corn was in the way. I moved 4 containers to another table... my dad moved 2 and put them on the ground, either because he thought it would be a quick fix or just didnt think about the geese that were grazing nearby. Either way, it took longer than we thought and we forgot about the corn, until it was time to put everything back. I looked down and saw two empty plant containers and two happy geese nearby. So yeah, geese ate my corn.

The Culprits:

Despite having over an two acres of carefully seeded, lush green pastures, my geese prefer my fruit trees. They especially like the blueberry, pineapple guava, hazel nut, peach, and goumi berry leaves. They have also been caught munching our Satsuma citrus trees (pulled immature fruit off the trees like it was a game) and eaten my poor bananas to the stalk.

Their favorite landscape plant to eat seems to be the bamboo. All I can say is that stuff must be really, really yummy to justify the amount of time they spend trying to eat it.

I learned that anything I wanted to live must be surrounded with a small fence that is far enough away from the plant that their bills can't reach in and grab a bite. The fencing must also be tall enough that they do not bend it down with their necks and heads in order to jump or reach over it.

I love my geese, but they sure can be little booger-heads sometimes...a lot like my goats.

My Lucy ate a red wasp!! I tried to stop her but she was too fast! She was in her pool and the red wasp wanted a drink that is when Lucy chomped it! I probably scared Lucy with my commotion to stop her from eating it. I had been stung by one a few days earlier and it left my calf swollen and red for a few days, I didn't want her to be stung.
When she chomped it she chewed then shook her head as if it stung her inside her mouth! I watched her and it didn't stop her from eating grass and her food but I haven't seen her chomp at another one.

I felt the same way when mine tried going after a wasp, luckily they didnt get it. (and the wasp didnt get them!) Theyre still tempted to chomp at anything that flies to close. But my mom would say, its better that our geese eat a bee than her begonias.

Here's a little reminder that if you decide to go with a raised bed for your garden, make sure its REALLY raised. Luckily, this is the little garden I made for my geese, so not a terribly big deal if they venture on there

They tried the raspberry bush, blueberry bush, rhubarb, tomato plants. That was in a 10 minute free-range attempt. That proved that it would not work.

Caught my girls 'trying' to eat the hose this morning.

But they like to eat pretty much anything and everything. I especially love how they eat zucchini. They remove all the peeling first, and eat the inside second. What crazy girls!
