The Great Mice Infestation....help!!!!!!!!!!

Feel your pain with the mice problem. I seem to get mice in the fall that go after my sweet potatoes and then they move onto other goodies. I set plenty of snap traps in my compost bin and I also have excellent luck with a mini live trap by little giant. I keep my feed in my garage. Keep at it, check your traps multiple times a day and you'll be suprised how many of them little buggers you can get. Don't stop till you see no more signs and always have a few traps set even after they are gone (good luck with that).

Barn Kitties are the best. Remember to let them IN at Night. This is when they hunt, not in the day usually.

My cats have NEVER harmed my chickens in ANY way. Just keep the babies out of their reach.

The kill buckets are EASY to make and they really are very effective.

I bought mouse traps from Home Depot that are called "Home Defense Max" by Ortho. These puppies work GREAT. There are also ones called the "predator" that work on the same principle. You can youtube the predator mouse trap and see what it looks like. I also bought the "Victor electronic mouse trap" It uses four AA batteries. These are all for the house, but you should be able to use them in your barn. I never have had a lot of luck with the multiple mouse trap thing.

Good Luck. I personally would use poison to do the initial kill off and just be careful with your chooks. It really is not as bad as some make it sound like.

Here is a Cute Video on mice and traps. Enjoy, cause I think I have had a few of these mice !!

This is what I did. I took a rubber made box/container. Cut a hole on each short end near the top, a hole about 2-3 inches in diameter. Then, on the long sides in the middle down about 4 inches from the bottom. Now flip it over so the open side is on the ground. Get the bait that has a hole thru the middle. Slide it on to a piece of twine or thin rope, and secure it . Run the ends of the rope thru the small holes on the long sides. Secure them so that the bait is hanging a bit off the ground in the middle, and it can't slide around. Now the mice can go in and eat the poison, and it will be hanging inside the box secure. The chickens can't get it, the mice can. I have 2 set up. I also have those traps around that are plastic and snap shut like jaws. You can reuse them over and over without touching the dead thing, and it has a small cup on the bottom that you can screw out from the bottom and put some good smelly food in. I put the traps where the chickens can't reach them and get their heads snapped off.

Well, I broke down and got a Ratzapper, and caught one mouse the first night. Then, nothing for several days, and then this morning the Tin Cat caught 4!! So that puts the score at zapper - 1, live traps - 5 (I caught one earlier in another version). The 4 in the trap this morning went for an early morning swim, which made me sad, but I have to say getting 4 at once was a step in the right direction. I somehow feel less guilty when they're already dead than when I have to finish them off myself, but I guess whatever gets the job done is most important. Wonder how many more are out there?
