What an facsinating website. Isn't it terrible how many people lost their lives?

We have a place about 20 miles from here called 40 Foot. I'm not sure why it's called 40 Foot, maybe it has to do with the nearby stream, but there is a plaque there that is a memorial to the people who were interred there during the 1918-1919 flu pandemic in a mass burial. During that time, Saxonburg, the closest city nearby, was mostly German immigrants, and were too poor to bury all that had passed. They don't know exactly how many people were buried there, except that it was many hundreds.
