The Gun Thread

I had my Colt Combat Commander .45 (Nickel plated back then) since I was 18yo.
I poured a ton of ammo through it, with all the cheap ammo and surplus magazines I could find. I started having frequent jams. I would actually have nightmares where I drew down on the 'bad guy' and the gun went "CLICK". It got put on the 'back shelf'.
I read later that high quality magazines were the key and I purchased some Wilson Combats. Let's just say it's the one in arm's reach when I sleep now.

When I was shooting Bullseye and ordered my Masaki guns, I ordered extra magazines "tuned" to the gun. The exact shape of the feed lips of the magazine can affect how well they work.

Quality mags can make a HUGE difference.

Read The Bone Collector, by Jeffery Deaver. Try not to throw the book across the room.

Or, one of the Jack Reacher novels. In one (I forgot which), he carries a gun in the pocket of a sports coat. That gun (Desert Eagle) weighs over a pound, unloaded.
:lau

I still read a Jeffery Deaver novel on occasion. But I gave up on Reacher a long time ago.
A Desert Eagle in .50 Action Express weighs almost exactly 3-1/2 pounds empty. But Reacher is a massive, hulking man whose mere presence brings an air of darkness and elicits discomfort and unease in ne'er-do-wells.

My son has a friend staying with us over the holiday, an old high school buddy who was a foreign exchange student from South Korea. He wasn't allowed to touch any firearms back then, per both his parents and his host family. He and my son are both in college now, and both over 18. Two minutes after he walked through the door today, I asked if he wanted to do some shooting. He was like a kid in a candy store and was paralyzed from an excess of choices. He totally sucks on the trigger but the joy on that kid's face was contagious.

I’ll have to ask my dad what kind of gun mine is. I’ve no clue. For some reason, I want to say it has something to do with 45.50, but I know that can’t possibly be right
It might be fun to ID it or narrow it down at least.

Was it a long gun (rifle or shotgun) or a pistol (revolver or automatic)?
