We have lost 2 chickens today. My silkie pair
The coop was a room in the barn. We've had these guys for awhile and it seemed secure. ALL the doors were shut and locked. I cannot figure out where in the world what ever it is got in. I thought all the boards were replaced and gaps were filled. My 22 chicks were secure in a different pen and the dog was chained all night. I know it wasn't her. THe ducks shared part of the pen, but they didn't come home last night. They came home this am (where DO those ducks go? lol) so they are fine too.
So my 12 year old is the first one out to the animals today. She played with the dog for awhile and then the 2 of them went to say good morning to the other animals. She said when she got out there everything looked normal. No open doors, no broken boards nothing unusual. She opened the door and started to say good morning and found them. Feathers everywhere. 2 dead chickens. Bodies intact but chest ripped open. Legs intact and heads too. whatever it was just left them, they didn't take it with them. Of course now I can't put anything else in there, so I have no idea where to put my ducks tonight. With the chicks??
Thanks for listening. Its hard losing animals. New coop will be done soon!!
