The "have you ever actually eaten a fresh chicken?" question.

Haven't we all heard people make remarks about eggs, also....
Like they will tell you that you can't have eggs without a rooster,
that you better candle every egg so you don't eat a baby chick for breakfast (even though there is no rooster), and they will tell you also that brown eggs taste terrible and only white eggs taste good....

WELL THEY ARE WRONG!
I have also met people who think cool whip tastes better than fresh whipped cream, that grocery store canned vegetables taste better than fresh vegetables....and I feel sorry for them!

Homegrown, fresh and healthy just has to be better

I also have a 3 year old and a 5 year old.. young... im not too worried about what they are going to think when 'freezer camp day' gets here... we raise beef each year and a few Boer goats for butcher... they know that some of our animals are for eating... just ask them what we do with our steers and they will say 'we eat em all gone!' we also did not name the 30 some odd meat birds and we call them the meat birds lol or stinky chicks lol. i had hoped that i would raise my kids so they know where their food comes from. they know our milk comes from the goats... they know that some of the boer babies are for eating... they know that the eggs come from our hens or 'The girls' as they call them. its fun! lol they are very wise for being so young!

there is nothing in the world like your own home grown chicken. we decided to get the meat birds because we want to be as self sufficent as possible... the birds are treated with respect and also when the time comes we will thank each bird for its life before we cull.. the same way we do with the weathers and the steers. call me weird, but i even thank the does for the yummy milk i get from them! just tell every one who asks, that you prefer to know WHAT your food eats before it is butchered and you like them to be raised humanley and culled the same way also.. but some people dont understand lol like my dad! lol good luck!

We don't have the time or space to raise a meat flock. Did that once and it was just too much hassle for the return. So we decided to recycle our older laying hens (and young roos) for the stock pot.

I can up the stock, and it's like liquid gold!
We don't eat much roasted chicken anyway, so when we want one, we pony up and buy from a local producer.
