The heated dog bowl

I bought a heated dog bowl yesterday from TSC in preparation for the cold weather.

I haven't decided if I'm just gonna fill it with water or what.

I read something about filling it with sand & setting waterer on top of that?

I just use small, one gallon plastic buckets, the kind ice cream comes in. I have a half dozen. That way, I can clean and re-fill inside, where it is warm. Take out a nice, clean, full bucket and swap it out. Done. If any straw or chips get in the dish, swish out with my gloved hand, and done. Easy.

In reality, I am merely using the warming dish as.... a.... uh..... warming dish.

Love my heated dog bowl! I have a small flock and I carry a pitcher of water to it every day in winter, cleans super easy and the chickens love it!!

How large is your flock and bowl? I'm thinking of doing the same thing.
