Yeah, I figured she was still in the brooder.

Garlic- Yep, Placerville is the land of plenty and that is why we love it. But every once in a while, you get a clever one. And as far as predators go in this neighborhood, foxes, coyotes, and bobcats are the small ones!

***UPDATE*** No, movement out there last night. Apparently the gigantic rooster was meal enough for the last 24 hours. We'll try again tonight.

Good hunting! I hope that you get your rug.

I'd be mad as hell if I went through all those fortifications and a varmint STILL took a bird OVER an eight-foot fence!

I can empathize about using a guinea for bait, too. Guineas is stupid! I tried them once and they caused all sorts of issues--noisy, too dumb to go into the coop themselves at night, and aggressive to my chickens. We finally ate the last one after it savagely attacked the rooster.

Anyhow, I hope you get your cat and will be looking forward to updates!

The best of luck. You have to protect yours.

Much rain here the last two weeks. A racoon found a weak spot and dug in the corner coop where my broody hen was with her eggs. Killed the hen and then ate her eggs!!! Tried to trap it last night and had problems with the trap. Will work on it again tonight and see if I can set it correctly. And yes, the racoon had come back. Pushed the trap all over the corner run. It also had been inside the big run! Wake up call all the way around.

SIL and nephew are on their way to help me turn it all into Ft. Knox. Then the trap will be set once again outside the runs.

Wish I had more acreage and I wold get me a LGD too! And a donkey....or is it a mule that will go after coyotes?

bburn- LEAVE the hole for tonight! Wire the trap to the fence at the hole from the inside of the run. If you wire it tight enough the raccoon will think it is pushing its way into the run, and won't think twice about entering the trap. Plus it solves your trap rolling problem.

I have a donkey and a mule. No small dog or critter of any kind is safe with my mule. My mule even chases deer away. Donkeys can be trained NOT to stomp on the family pets, but not always. Mini donks are not good for guard donkeys, get a standard size.

Sometimes you just have to take care of things. Where I am Coyotes and Fox are all over and I would not think twice about thinning them out.

I agree with everyone. I don't hesitate when presented with a shot, but I'd have to build a turret in the middle of my yard and sit in it 24/7 if I wasn't constantly reinforcing the runs.

Like this, except replace the army guys with chickens...
