The Hummingbird Haven

@Blooie I actually love the texture that the screening gives to that picture. And that story is wonderful!

My dad feeds the hummingbirds at his house and at the cabin. He only gets the Ruby Throated hummingbird. And only two feeders at each place. He has about 13 hummers coming in regularly at the house, a few more at the cabin. A few years ago, he was sitting on the screen porch reading his Sunday paper when the male hummers started chasing each other around. One of them missed on his attack and wound up sticking his beak into the screen and getting stuck. He tried to get out for a couple of minutes, putting it into high speed reverse but was stuck too tight. My dad was worried about the poor little guy so he got up, gave it a tap on the tip of its beak and POP! it was loose and flew away.

Like a dart hurled at a dart board, lol. Glad your dad was there to give the hummer a helping hand.

Nice photo Bubbles!

I haven't seen any hummingbirds for at least a week here...maybe they've moved on? I need to learn more about their migratory habits. Anyone have a good online source for that?

Thanks! I'm not an expert about hummers.... I just put up feeders and let 'em come if they want.

Hi! I'm lurking ..you..Blooi.. I went to your profile, was going to send some photos of my son...your grand daugher is a doll by the way..then I saw this post! I just put out my hummingbird feeder out again this yr. after not having done so for a couple of yrs..what was I thinking? I love those little things. Besties they are! Here are some photos I got this yr. from inside my window/living room.

I don't have the best camera. But it was fun..there were probably 4 o 5 different ones that would show up. Who knows? Maybe more. One had the cutest white spots spaced along the bottom of it's tail when it fanned out. Wish I had gotten that one.

Anyway, back to the pm to you. Maybe we should start a thread on Birth Defects..or handicaps. Bet there are a few folks on here that can relate. Just a thought.

Doggone it, it won't post it as a link. But there is a thread, Cynthia. Got your PM. Waiting until I get on the computer so I can reply better. Your son looks like he met the world head on, and on his terms! That's what we want for Kendra!
