The crew is 9 weeks old and has been in the coop since they were 3 weeks - they also have a FT KNOX secure run where they have spent all their time - - they have had a heat lamp until tonite - I removed it this afternoon - - it was only a 75 watt and not sure it was really heating them all that much (they had a 250W up until about 2 weeks ago)
I just went out and ran them all into the coop while it is still light - they were reluctant as it was not quite late enough as far as they were concerned! I have what I am 100% sure are 2 roos and the one likes to hang out in the run til after dark - the other is a cuddler with his girls - pretty sure that is the one I am going to keep -
Hope they don't freak out too much - I left the one window open so they can see it get dark so as it doesn't bother them too much - that is my theory anyway - being a newbie I have always been the mother hen to them and so far they seem to love me for it! Or maybe it is because I am a pez-dispenser of treats!
I will go out as soon it is completely dark and shut their window - temps have been in the hi 40's and they have deep litter about 6 inches deep - am sure they will stay toasty - - silly chickens won't go up on the roosts yet and I took out the inside next boxes today where they were roosting on the entrance bar - (am revamping my design and adding them to the outside to free up coop space - was planning on 6 - bought 9 and they all lived!!!) - so I double whammied them today no light and no 'baby' roost........maybe I am a mean mommy-hen!
Wish them luck I am forcing them to be big kids now!
