The law and thieves.

Well I found out they got an investigator a couple days before I initially posted. They've called him nearly every day for a week but he never returns any of their calls. I think they have given up on it. Really makes no sense to me. Like I said in the original post, if you kicked down their front door and took your own property back I'm sure the cops would have all the time in the world to investigate. Every day it's another excuse or they say they will call them back and just never do. Seems pretty easy to me, but whatever.

If any updates come I'll let you all know but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I've seen at least two or three reports in the local newspaper, in the past few weeks, about cell phone thefts (or lost but found by someone who would not return it). I can't for the life of me figure out the logic on the part of the police! If you can trace your own phone to the person keeping it, why the heck can't there be some awareness of probable cause to allow a search warrant and search-and-seizure of that property to return it to its proven owner?

What if your microchipped dog is stolen, and a veterinarian happens to read the chip and matches it to your reported stolen pet's chip number? Can the vet refuse to give the dog back to the person/unrightful "owner" who brought it in? Can police seize the dog?

Maybe this is an example of there not being new laws in place, yet, to handle the quirks of newer technologies. If this kind of crime gets common enough, where the owners can trace and locate their own property -- I think new adjustments will be made in law - and law enforcement - to deal with it. Especially if it happens to someone in law enforcement.

As I stated before please go to a different police agency because this one is a bunch of clowns usually a person has a choice between the state police or troopers and county sheriff in rural area and also city police added in urban areas, trust me having to switch is a pain but you might get better results.
