Krystal grabbed onto the bird's talons and shook her like prey, throwing her into a rock. She snarled, "give me that book and maybe I'll let you go!"
Um, anything, really. But Krystal just went to attack Linnae, so...

Linnae hissed, "Like I'd even let you see it!" she swiped her talons at her.

Krystal screeched as a large, jagged gash was ripped down her side from her chest. "Really? Then maybe you wouldn't mind a trade? Maybe your wings?" She taunted, lunging for one of Linnae's wings and jerking back with incredible force.

Linnae shrieked and flung out her foot. If she pulled too hard it would sink into her neck.

A brief spark of uncertainty flared in Krystal's eyes for a moment, before she looked at Maggie again. She can take the book back. Sylvia has to live. Plus, if I tear both of this bird's wings off she'll probably die. "Trade off," she roared as she yanked back, the pain from when Linnae's talons dug into her neck only making her bite harder.

Linnae instantly released her grip on the book's covers, there was a ripping sound, and a page tore away from it. "You want to save that stupid kite? Go ahead, but you'll have to find an antidote to dark venom elsewhere."
She silently cursed herself for not memorizing it, then tore it tore the page in half, then four pieces, then eight.
"Oops."

(I pretty much did that because I thought finding a way to stop the venom would be too much of a plot twist.)
