We put a lot of time, care and love from day one into our feathered babies, We watch them grow, learn and play. They all have their names and crazy personality and away to make us laugh, They give us comfort in holding them, they listen to us talk when we are happy or sad.
So when we have to have one of our feathered babies (Chicken, Ducks, geese and many others) put down It feels like your heart is torn out of your chest, The tears running down your face and it simple hurts!
I have raised cows, pigs for butcher when I was younger but I don't have the heart to do so anymore at my age. I am in a place in my life that these are part of my family. After the sad day today I go to my coop and here is a chicken and a duck wanting to be with me on my lap to cheer me up. Even on the worst days I can proudly say I am blessed with the love my feathered babies give back to me.

If you have had things like this happen to you please add to reach out to others who are or have gone through this too.

:( I'm sorry to hear that

I appreciate everything my birds do for me, even if they don't know it. Just sitting and watching them is one of my favorite escapes, especially if I am overwhelmed, worried, or sad.

Oh man, that's terrible. I would cry too!

I find myself either crying my eyes out or laughing about some silly thing they did while I cry.

I know it's easier said than done, but maybe if you remember the good times? Was this a favorite duck?
