Okay, I don't currently have a mag, but used a regular flashlight and even that was much easier! I think I will pick up a mag tomorrow and give that a try. Based on how the regular flash light worked I think the maglight will do great, Thanks for the tip!!! Can you tell this is my first hatch ?

It's only my second, but I think I made every mistake you can make with the first one! Still ended up with 3 healthy, beautiful chicks. Should have been 5 and if I'd left the bator closed and helped the one when my instinct said to, I think it would have been. But I know now.

I'm using a 21-LED flashlight for candling that works great on my duck eggs, but these little brown Cochin eggs are tricky.

I candled again when I was pulling the three clears last night, and I saw the little embryo swimming around in one of them! It's a few days behind where it should be because of the low temperatures during Week 1, but I could make out the eye and the little nubbin of a body and it was positively vigorous!

so far three are hatching! I woke up about an hour ago and heard little peeping noises coming from the incubator! 3 are hatching. Not quite hatching but are working their way out. I even woke up my 5 year old daughter to see haha she went back to sleep, now I'm to excited!

We have pips! One BMF and one BR/EE mix.

None of my Columbian Bantam Cochins have pipped yet - but, I had to open the 'bator quickly to add more water this morning, and I quickly candled from the top of the eggs into the air cells, and I have at least 5 internal pips out of the 8 eggs - so I should start seeing pips and CHICKS in the next day or so!

I'm rooting for your chicks as well as mine, blessedchickenmama7!
