Minerva looked around, scanning the ground for a stick. She was able to spot a large twig. She snatched it up with her beak and ran back to the others. She offered the end of the stick out to Flower, hoping the others would grab on and help her.
Connor tried to lean in to see her but Ruby stuck out her wings again. "Sorry, mom." He said. "I just hope she can make it up." "Me too but you have to be careful." She preened one of Connor's feathers to show that she cared.
Flower latched onto the stick with her beak like a parrot, using it to pull herself up. She finally made it up to the top and collapsed, eyes shut, wheezing.
Connor ran over to Flower and just looked at her. He felt like he could start crying but he stayed tough. Ruby and her chicks came over too. Cherry couldn't help but feel like it was her fault since she chased her in the first place.
The three chicks and Ruby all started to preen the mud out of her feathers. Connor tried the hardest to do it.
The chicks kept on preening her. They got most of the dirt out of her feathers so Connor also snuggled up to her.
