The Migratory/Ornamental Waterfowl INFO Thread

sounds great, glad to hear more people down our way are getting back into them. Back in the 80's and 90's there were a lot down here. Then they all seemed to disapear??

Sounds like yall have the bug though! LOL

I was about your sons age when I started, so be prepared!!!
If you have any specific questions on any species, feel free to ask, not many I havent had. And yep, those ruddy's, though beautiful, are a pain in the rear to keep, the little buggers just cant walk for squat can they! LOL

SOUNDS LIKE i MAY BE HEADED YOUR WAY IN THE NEXT YEAR OR SO TOO FOR SOME...

Does anyone have any experience with Falcated teal? I saw them on Mallard Lanes site and they look amazing. Anything any different then other teals I should know about them. What is their size? Are they loud? Thanks for any info.

had tons of them.
Teal is really a false , misleading name for them, they are a large duck, well large for migratory, little larger than wood ducks, about widgeon sized.
Ground nesters.
Males are drop dead gorgeous!
Color up first year
Virtually no noise like most all migratories.
Do require the Fed permit to sell.
lay 6-10 eggs on average
Are not the easiest to get to reproduce though, need lots of ground cover, I had some that just never would lay.
not aggressive at all, very easy going, but not prone to being bullied either due to their larger size.
Ducklings can be a little frail the first month, a little extra "babying" is needed on them after that , they are good to go usually.

Anything else you'd like to know about them?

here's some I will be looking for if anyone out there knows who may have them. These were always hard to find, had them all, and REALLY loved them. If you know of any breeder with these, I'd like thier info for my records so when the time comes I'll be ready
All tree ducks in
eyton's
java
wandering

All the others are easy to find but these are always difficult
Thanks in advance if you have any leads!

just got a trio of cubans, big birds,I know where to get eytons when your ready

I just added two pairs of marble teal and a pair of cinnamon teal to my breeding stock! I can't wait until spring....here is a picture of the marble teal.

Yep, I had those too, big, and watch them, mine were the meanest ducks I had too, mainly to the whiteface and other smaller treeducks.
I'll check with you on the eytons', they are the easiest of the 3 to fine, but still not very common. The java and wandering, I only was able to get from Mike and Ali Lubbock at Sylvan Heights, but dont think they sell to the public any more. I do know them pretty well, so maybe I can sweet talk them out of some though. If you see the Java's, you'll want them too, very good looking and tiny for treeducks.

I'll look threw my people, there are several of them that had them. the Hensons in MN, Ed Jordan in ME, Charles Kamm in MN, and several others

Found you some. These guys are getting tuff to come across too arent they!
I dont know this guy or anything about him. But he's the only one I saw 2010 listings for garganeys on all the sites and publications I looked at. Didnt have a price on them, mine were $120 a pr back in the day, so I would expect them to be in that ball park still
