The Migratory/Ornamental Waterfowl INFO Thread

Okay, but it kinda didnt answer my question. I see it is bad if you have a male in there, or when they are growing up, but y can 3 grown ducks 2 ornamental and 1 domestic females be together if they are adults?

because domestics are bullies, they will run, chase and eventually starve them to death, regardless of sex. Same with ducklings, worse with males, males will also mix breed anything you have, or at best prevent the correct males from breeding. Domestics of any breed or sex or age are no no 's when mixing in a waterfowl collection with migratorys. They are also much nastier, and can cause more disease problems in your pens. The domestics are for the most part immune to it from centuries of captive dirty pens, where as migratorys, while tuff little buggers, are not naturally use to be in less than pristine conditions.

That makes so much more sense. Thank You

OK so I know what this is suppossed to be.... but what is wrong with it? Has it been fighting?

I can quite tell what we're supposed to be looking at. does it have thin feathering on there heads or is that just the picture? otherwise i just see two drakes coming out of eclipse. Sorry, i'm no help

nothing wrong, they are just coming out of eclipse plumage, some are slower at it than others, climate does play a roll in it, northern birds usually feather out earlier than southern

found some old pics of some of my pens when I was about 18, not the best, had to scane them and load them and all that mess, but here's a few to show how I had 1 of the pens set up, tried to keep it as natural as possible for them.

On the 6th and 7th picture what is that on the top? is just leaves on top of your netting or is it some sort of shade cloth?
I know you have told us about your ponds before, but did your ponds flow into each other or recirculate with a pump?
