I just put the nest box up today I hope they have some babies but I'm getting my hopes to high because this is their first year I really just want to encourage it!
I didn't figure they would lay this year but I was hoping they would. Also if I get the permit to sell Wood Ducks(I'm getting an Apricot pair later) how would I add any other native birds or does the permit cover all of them ?
You don't need a federal permit to keep native waterfowl- only to sell/trade/give away. Native cranes, doves, etc. fall under other regulations and require other permits.
You "add" other native waterfowl by purchasing them from a federally licensed breeder who transfers them to you with a 3-186 slip. So long as you have that and the birds are properly marked per Usfws regulations you're 3/4 of the way there to your own federal permit to sell native species like wood ducks .
I knew that but like do you have to add other birds to your permit after you get it or do you only need the 3-186 form and 1 permit to sell most natives ?
