On the wire you asked about... We used 1x2inch welded wire to keep things out! and of course keep them in.
We always used to use chicken wire but found out the hard way not to use that so now all of our pens get build out of the welded wire. We get in the 6ft tall rolls and it goes 100ft for $200. WE spent our so it went 6 inches on the ground and staked in into the ground.

Our experince with chicken wire.. We built a brand new turkey pen and had 16 about 3 month old turkey we had moved into it.. we had 2x6 board about 3 ft up on the sides. We woke up July 4th morning to find the cage ripped into and all of the birds dead. Right next door was my few onrnamental waterfowl I had at the time, a few Mandarins, wood ducks, greenwing teal and ring teal... That weekend the chicken wire got 1x2 welded wire put on it and we have replaced the wire on all of our pens and that is all we will use. To me it is not worht the $100 you might save to have to worry about a predator getting in there..

OK, thanks, I definatly consider it. Maybe my dad can help on paying for that, or Ill be putting all my money into the pen itself, and wont have any birds!

Id rather have it done right than save some money and lose all my birds. Any one need pens cleaned for $ lol

and my good news....
I have 8 duck eggs under my Broody Chicken.. The hen laid them and after a week she hadn't anymore or sat on them so I hope our crazy weather didn;t get them.. They were covered with Pine shavings so I hope that helped them not freeze and die!!

and one other nest that someone is slowing building.. I need a book to see what these eggs are! They 8 were all different so i think I have nest dropping going on!
Hmm let's see what all I have in raised boxes... Madnies, Woodies, Hoodies.. What could it be!!

think other Ringed Teal started laying and one of the Chiloes. A ground nest I have seen the Chiloes go in & out of and saw Daisy on top of the box where the 2 small eggs are

Toejam have you thought about electricfence. Very cheap and then you could use chicken wire. That is what all my pens are made of except the dog kennels. Never lost a bird ever with it. Kanga that is wierd that with all your boxes they would dump in one. Stumped totally on that one.

Can someone give me opinons on this fencing idea?

I am thinking about using Chain link fence as the main fence, and put chicken wire or some wire he used for our goat pen(small holes) to put around the bottom, and top if need be.

Yep both work and I put my wire on top and bottom 4inches off the ground.
