that's the perfect attitude to have with these. and with a new 50x150 they'll be very happy. It does take a few years of trial and error to get it down, but once you do, you'll be in love. Keep that attitude going and you'll do just fine. Biggest problem is folks think domestic ducks are the same as these and get frustrated when all doesnt go as planed the first attempt. Sounds like you understand this isnt the case and that's one of the biggest hurdles to get over....think you'll have it whipped in a year or so.
Best of luck to you and feel free to ask away as questions come up...they will

When applying for the sale disposal permit, i obviously have to use one of my parents because the ridiculous must be 18 or older to apply rule. Will it pose any problems when i attach my current 3-186 forms that say my name instead of theirs?

no, it didnt for me back when I had to deal with that.
As long as it's blood relative and you live in the same household, they deal with it pretty well.
Just make sure they understand what is going on up front

na,
me and my wife both had some heath problems, (well Dr bill problems) and as tight as money was before that, several more grand on top of my $5000 from them last year kinda knocked a hole in my playing money again, oh the AC went out late last summer too, that was $4700, so we had about close to $15g in unexpected crap come up over the past 10 month or so... Got it all ready to go land wise though, just need a break in the money to do it with department.

I know they dont count here, but did add on a butt load of calls this year, got about 19-20 colors of them now. Had to do something, couldnt stand being totally duckless any more

lol

The phoenix just started back again, not looking too hot on the d'anvers so far though, they stopped way early this year with the heat, usually only take a couple weeks off, but this year just stopped and stayed stopped so far

Im very new to ducks and I have a couple questions about migratory/ornimental waterfowl.
Do you need any kind of permit to own them or is it just to sell them?
Which kinds do well in cold weather winters?
Also can different breeds be housed together or is it best to keep them seperate?

back around page 50 or so, cant remeber for sure.
But I listed them all by species in two groups. One group needs the Federal permit, the other doesnt.
But no, just to own them, a licensed breeder will give you what is called a form 3-186 transfer form. This IS your possession permit, nothing else is needed unless you are in one of those states that require gamebird permits.

yes most all of them are group friendly, go back to the first 7 pages. I outlined them by groups. some do not mix well and are listed there. These are mainly shelducks, and a few of the treeducks.
But as long as your pen is big enough, they do for the most part all get along fine. Just dont mix domestics in with them, they'll cross breed with everything you have.

All of them laugh at the winter months. It's a ducks favorite time of year, snow, ice, high winds, doesnt matter, they'll sit right out in it. If you can keep open water with areators or constant flow, they dont even need a barn. There are a few exceptions to this, mainly the treeducks, they are all tropical and dont do well below the single digits or low teens. Also some of the teal are tropical , hottentots would be about the only major concern for me with them in cold though.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask, and read over the first 5-8 pages or so. They detail them pretty well by groups

who are we???
someone laid 4 eggs next to some bales of pine straw I had in the pen to scatter out, then one eggs was gone. I left them alone, few days later I found 3 eggs in a ground nest(flower pot upside down), then there were 4 with one rolled almost out, then one was gone so I pulled them and put in the incubator. a week or so later I found 4 more eggs in another ground nest so I took them too. from the first batch 2 didn't start but the other 4 did. 2 pipped halloween morning but didn't progress so Nov 2 I removed half the shells. 1 pushed its self but 2 hrs later the other one hadn't I pulled it the rest of the way out. Both are fine. I got up this morning and both were missing. I found them huddled in the corner on the cold concrete in my florida room. I can't believe they got out. I held them under the light and got one to eat some grogel and it also nibbled some duck feed. The other one(larger) really doesn't want to eat yet. The 2 eggs that didn't hatch one is alive. I see the beak moving. Should I peck it??? From what i read on the internet both the hottentot and brazilian teal are supposed to hatch in 24 to 27 days. The other 4 from the 2nd set seem to still be progressing. As far as clues to who they are I kept seeing my hottentot near the eggs but then I saw one of the brazilian teal hens mounting the the other hen lol. They walk/run like little penguins also if that helps which made me think Common Goldeneye but they don't look like pics I found of them as ducklings
