The minimum height under nesting boxes and other things for chickens to use that space?

What is the absolute *minimum* height I could hang the nesting boxes inside the coop for the space under them still be usable by full size chickens and would not have to be deducted from the total floor sq. footage calculation?

Also my coop is converted shed with interior OSB walls already put in over 2x4 framing. I have already cut the bottoms of the walls to prevent pests and extend exterior space somewhat. How low interior walls can start above the bedding for the space between the wall studs to still count as a floor space? That space would add up ~9 sq.ft. to 8x8 exterior coop. Currently the inner OSB is cut at 6" above the bedding - probably just enough to use to turn around but not standing full height.

To really count as floor space, they should be able to stand fully erect 16-18"...taller for a large cockbird.

Here's some general tips for heights:

6" is not enough to count for floor space, IMO, but good to help prevent pests, maybe. Tho not if there is any insulation stuffed up in there, the mice will easily climb up to it for cozy nests, and the birds may be able to access it also and you don't want that.

If you are calculating the space between studs for floor space, I'm guessing you are trying to squeeze more birds in than is probably a good idea. Here's good article on Space:http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-much-room-do-chickens-need
