Hello!
Well my chicken wait is almost over! My Mcmarruy chicks get here on the 7th.. I'm so excited I bought 32 birds of different breeds, I bought some chick from the tractor supplies that are quiet pretty birds but only a month old.. Also one of the chicks has crossed beak.. very bad.. Any help on that? She is a sultan and the sweetest bird!
Getting turkeys on the 23rd... I'm getting three bourbon reds and one royal palm
Toulouse Geese get here on the 14th. I got a pair.

My questions!

1. I'm using my old playpen for them... Is that okay as a brooder?
2. I have geese coming on the 14th and turkeys coming on the 23rd.. can they all stay together? any tips on Geese or Turkeys?
3. Will all my birds get along together as they get older?
4. As for teakers my cross beak! any ideas? I can't kill her.. she is a babydoll!

If any of ya'll want to share some chicken, geese, ducks, turkey wisdom!! your more then welcome!! I would love to hear your tips and ideas and how you raised your babies! Mine are just for pets not to eat.
I will post pictures soon as I get them!

1 That is fine... You will run out of room in about 1 and a half weeks though with over 40 chicks.. They double in size each week give or take a little....
2They can be kept together all the way untill 8 months or so..
3 refer to 2
4 The cross beak shouldnt be a problem just an annoyance... (I dont think it is fixable)

OK TIPS

1 Start to build an Outdoor Brooder (It will definitley come in handy later on IE, hospital, Broody pen, Or for new chicks again.. hospital and broody pen can come at you on a sudden notice, It is a good idea to have one on hand) I use a A-frame chicken tractor...
You can adjust to meet your needs... Just google "chicken tractor" and you will be able to get all sort of ideas.....

2 Wherever you have your chicks, Have the heat lamp ALL the way to one side... Under the lamp have it 90 degrees the first week and 85 every week after... Have the end with no lamp as cool as possible... The best way I have found to raise chickens is to raise them inside untill they are 14 days old then transport them to the outdoor brooder..... Doing this has provided me with the healthiest chickens so far (My first two batches were raised inside until they were 7 weeks old, My last two batches were raised 2 weeks inside, the rest outside and the last 2 batches are by farm healthier)

3 My chicks love it when I take a shoveful of sod and put it in their brooder....

4 GEESE ARE MESSY lol just be ready for it....

5 raise food and water each week so that it is at chest level.. This helps prevent poop and wood chips from getting in them

6 Use Fine wood shavings not the normal ones..

That should get you started.... If you have any questions Dont be afaid to PM me and ask away =] I love helping new chicken owners =]

Thanks so much! Yeah I got a pair of Yucklings for my son for easter. Sadly one died from a snake bite. not sure if the female duck will have problems with the geese. I'm excited about my little babies getting here tho I'm worried geese might be alittle to loud for my next door neighbors. You know people love to start drama and just be nasty. I had turkeys and chickens before when i was a kid but they weren't to loud.. But this is my first time getting geese.
