Ya i still have a few. Need to get my sh!t together though because I only have one male right now.@The Moonshiner I am slowly working my way through this thread. Do you still raise Buffs?
If you have time to take pics, I would love to see them. I am trying to absorb what a proper Leghorn looks like by reading through this thread as I get time. I have got to find my APA SOP. Its in this house somewhere…Ya i still have a few. Need to get my sh!t together though because I only have one male right now.
Should be fine. I've hatched from the detached ones and the saddled ones before. I have a few going in on my Easter hatch.@NagemTX I candled the Buff Leghorn eggs before I left the house for work and there are quite a few with wobbly air cells. Not completely detached best I could tell, just wobbly. My Painted turkey eggs I ordered last year had some pretty wobbly air cells though and I got pretty good hatch rates from them. So I am trying to be positive. I will set them in the morning after they have rested for 24 hours.

Okay I’m glad to hear that. It wont be a full 24 hours exactly when I set them. I will put them in the incubator in the morning when I get off work.Should be fine. I've hatched from the detached ones and the saddled ones before. I have a few going in on my Easter hatch.
I've only waited not even a full day before setting. I get them at about 10am and the next day between 5pm and 9pm is when I set. Others have no issues setting same day.![]()
The American SOP makes allowances for hens with washed out leg color due to production.I cannot get good pics of these two Light Brown Leghorn hens to save my life. They are the hens I have the Red Leghorn rooster over.
This one is my favorite. She has really nice size and a better topline.

This is the darker one.

Their leg color could be better, but the rooster has bright yellow legs so should see better leg color in the offspring hopefully.
Okay thank you for telling me that. I remember reading that now that you mention it. My husband and I are going to try to find my copy of the SOP book this weekend. I have bred Old English Games and Black Copper Marans to SOP, but OEG are white legged and Marans are slate legged so the fading yellow leg color in females didn't occur to me as far as SOP until I started looking over the Leghorns for potential flaws. The American SOP makes allowances for hens with washed out leg color due to production.
