Well, those chicks definitely look Duckwing to me. I was just pointing out there are genes that cause striping on wheaten based birds but they never look like duckwing. So basically, chick hatch down may not have as much to do with their base then? If I understand correctly? So if the Red Leghorns are fully eWh, how are all of my chicks looking homozygous for duckwing? I am trying to figure all this out. I have read a ton of nicalandia's old posts to try to understand it.
It's less than half what I hatched the previous year. That's a lot! Did you end up with a lot of Leghorn chicks?
I have no doubt they are full duckwing based. I was just trying to make sense as to how. The hatchery Red chicks being split e+/eWh seemed like a strong possibility until I read the article you found. Now I am back to not knowing anything. lolWell, those chicks definitely look Duckwing to me. Awesome! Congratulations on such a productive year. Post pictures as they grow and feather out. It's less than half what I hatched the previous year.
It was probably half leghorns I don't keep a breed count

@MysteryChicken has dealt with split bases more than I have though (most of my mixed colors were on accident since I breed for show) so it would be good to have a second opinion.
That is exactly why I stopped showing. No offense @Amer. lol
