The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I really love this Brown Leghorn hen. I wish I could capture her true type without her acting like a complete spaz. She has a decent cushion and upward slope to the tail and her tail is a good angle. She has the shafting and she surely isn’t perfect but I just think she is pretty. She has great size and is solid in her body when you get her in your hands. She has been with a rooster since January so she is looking a little worn.

I actually think I will name her Spaz.

She is pretty. I once had an Ancona that I named Spaz, though I remember nothing of her character.

You all talked about how somebody could go without candling. I used to never candle but started to after having an egg explode in the incubator once. Now I only candle one day 18 just to get rid of the ones that aren't going to hatch so the others have more room when they do.
I don't get too anxious about knowing what's going to hatch because there's always another batch coming in a week.

Candle once at about day 10 or 12.

Out with clears and blood rings and everything else goes to lockdown

Snapped a few pictures of the oldest group of Red x Browns. I noticed they are quite beefy, and saw that my husband has been feeding everything Gamebird starter. lol It will make the cull cockerels quite plump little fryers.

There is only one cockerel in the first group of 4, and 3 pullets. If these birds turn out nothing more than fryers and pretty little red layers, I really like them. The cockerel is the most chill. The pullets are wild as bucks. He was the only one who would stand still and pose for me. (Edited to add a tag to this in case someone ever searches to see what a "black patterned red (incomplete) columbian with less hackle markings" on a duckwing base looks like.)

Here is one of the pullets. They more or less all look the same.

These need to hurry up and get past their juvenile pattern stage.
