The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I worry about that happening in the NR 360 expressly having bantams so I always put a piece of shelf liner down at lockdown, it's worked pretty well for me so far.
I don’t use the NR 360 much as a hatcher, I prefer to hatch in my two Genesis. I only use it when the other hatchers are full. The NR 360 is my least favorite incubator I own. Poor little thing. 😢🥺

A lot of NR360 users will put that rubbery, perforated shelf liner in there at lockdown. I use it and that way their little feet and toes can’t fit through the bottom.

I may try that when I get desperate enough to use it as a hatcher again. I prefer my two Genesis. At least chicks don’t run off the ledge to the floor in those like kamikaze pilots. I have many gripes about the NR 360.

1. No handles and hard to get lid on right.
2. No lip or ledge to keep chicks inside the incubator when taking off the top.
3. Chicks get legs hung in grate and is poorly designed.
4. The thing is a nightmare to clean after hatches.

That’s all my sleep starved mind can think of right now. 😆

Don’t get me wrong, it will hatch chicks but I have to gripe about it long enough so I can convince my husband I need a MaticoopX 30. Right @The Moonshiner ?? lol

Did you set eggs today?
Yes ma'am
Another rainy day here. Ran a few errands in the morning and it was pouring by the time I made it back home.
Chilly, rainy, windy day so made sure if I was gonna be inside I'd get some eggs set.
30 in the maticoopx and 12 in the mechachick.

You may have the same gripes about the matucooox.
No handles on it either but for some reason seems a little bit easier to hold on to. You also have to line up the top and bottom the same way but again it seems easier with it.
There is a lot more lip with it. It's more like a small wall but I have had a couple jump over it. Definitely a lot better than the nr360 though.
I don't know about legs getting hung up. I think it has smaller holes but I don't use anything in either and haven't had that happen.
And yeah it's not fun to clean afterwards either. Not as bad as the 360 but still not much fun. My real complaint is like a lot of them the turner motor is in the bottom. I hate that I can't just stick the bottom in a sink full of water and let it soak for a while.

I may stick with our two Genesis incubators then for hatching. The Sportsman is all we need as a main incubator for setting eggs unless we are setting eggs for friends, only then does things get tight on space.

In the two Genesis, I dont use the bottom plastic tray for water, I use a bowl of water and a sponge sticking out of it and it keeps the humidity perfect and lasts longer. I line the bottom of the incubator with paper towels for easy clean up and if I need to I can spray them out or soak them in a tub of hot water. I have a spare in the closet for parts if I need them, and they hatch eggs like a dream.

Its been rainy and chilly here too. In Kentucky, winter keeps trying to make a comeback and we have all these little mini winters every spring that mountain folk call redbud winter, dogwood winter, blackberry winter, etc. All punctuated by periods of nice and warm weather. The mini winters are marked by what tree or plant is blooming at the time. Hopefully after this chilly snap it will heat up and dry out.

I’m excited you have set eggs! Looking forward to seeing your chicks and what all you produce this year! 😁
