Who knows. I noticed that ebay has some brown leghorn hatching egg's if you don't mind hatching your own to get some.

That's the best way to go, and also make sure that the breed or breeds would be suited for the climate for your area, or you could have problems. I'm in the desert, so I need to stay away from the bigger breeds that have more feathering, but I do need the ones that have the bigger single combs.

I was super careful with this batch to get birds that could tolerate both heat and cold. But I’m looking ahead to getting lighter fiercer birds who can live more independently.

I didnt realize this thread is sooo long. But when I saw the first few pics my jaw dropped. I need a roo like the first pic. Absolutely stunning!

So as the resident leghorn expert, you might know the answer to this - Sandhill Preservation said their brown leghorn flock got completely wiped out by gnats (the still have a variety of other leghorns). How would that happen? Do the gnats swarm them or is it a teeny maggot infestation?

I honestly have no idea. Idk how gnats would kill a flock of birds. That's one state away from me so I'd assume they have the same knats as here and I don't get it.
Just glad they're not trying to murder my birds. No gnat proof pens here.

Ya that's a good hatch. It's been a rough hatching season so really thrilled with this one.
About a dozen more like it I'd be ecstatic. Unfortunately I don't think there's that many days left in the season.

First it was the murder hornets…now it’s the gnats we have to worry about.
