The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Decided I'd better get on with unloading my extra Call Ducks. Went through them and picked out 2 hens, 4 drakes and the 5 juveniles that hatched a bit back to let go.
Put up a couple ads and BOOM let the games begin. By the next morning I had 11 different people reply and some had a few replies Wasn't asking a ton for them so kind of expected a mess but figured might get them out the door quicker.
Went down the list and about the 3rd person was serious and wanted to come take a look.
Only 10 minutes late and they snagged a pair and 2 juvies. Not a bad start. This might not be so bad. Wrong, everyone else will flakes and beating around the bush. Two were interested but one backed out about time we set up a time and the other was a no show.
I hate selling stuff.
Day and a half on that and I only sold four so far.
I hate selling stuff for the same reason. I can't stand dealing with flaky, wishy-washy people. If you aren't serious, please do not even inquire. I have a really nice Tiger Blue tom turkey I was thinking about pairing up with a hen to sell. But I don't have time to deal with all that mess like you mentioned, so we are eating him for Thanksgiving. I hope you sell the rest of your ducks without too much aggravation.

Eggs in lockdown and going over final inspection for my next juvenile pen. Snake proofing is a b**** but hopefully the cold coming will lessen that threat.
Probably move 3 or 4 brooders worth over to that pen Wednesday.
Getting to be that time. Need to scramble to try and get chicks hatched for breeding plans next year. Make the dreaded cuts to adult birds to make room for grow outs.
At least after some older birds move on I can start to admiring the grow outs and the potential definite keepers. Just can't admire them to hard or they'll surely be the ones not to make it to spring.
I feel the seasonal changing coming soon. Fall isn't long enough here and winter is too long.
It's been feeling very fall here too. It's actually been pretty atypically cool for us for the time of year. There have been nights where the temps have gotten down into the high 40's low 50's already. As much as I dread cold weather, I'm ready for December to hurry up and get here so I can graduate. Today is my last day of the practicum portion of my program. Just two more classes in the Fall II term and I'm free!!!

When you go to admire those grow outs, take a few pictures so we can help you admire them. 😁

I decided to put a hold on breeding the Silver Gingers for now at least. I turned the Silver Ginger/Leghorn pullet and cockerels loose to make room for other birds I needed the pen space for. I need to focus on trying to breed a few more Silver Leghorn pullets, and I want to take a couple Brown pullets from Don to put my favorite Silver Leghorn cockerel over to try to add some size to them and improve their type/tails. Hopefully there isn't too much autosomal red to deal with from that crossing. I will breed some pure from the trio of Silvers as well that I have kept penned up to improve any autosomal red that may come up. From the Silver male x Brown female crossing I will get silver females and I will probably keep 1-2 of the silver/gold males from that cross possibly to use for later if I need them. The silver pullets with the best type/tails I will put back with a pure Silver male and hopefully see some improvement in the size, type, and tails of their offspring. That's the plan anyway, we shall see how many curve balls life will throw at me to try to destroy my plan.

Maybe summer is gonna hang on a while longer here.
We went from 90s to 70s and now headed back towards 90s
Wouldn't mind another month of straight low 80s.

Had yesterday off so hopes of getting some bonus chickening done.
#fail life and errands kept me pretty busy instead. One day off in the next four so maybe Friday will be more productive.
Needs to be. About a dozen chicks hatched when I left this morning. Need to free up some brooders.
In sad news one of cheap O incubators bit the dust with 30 eggs at about a week in or so.
Man I need about 6 maticoopx 30 eggers.

@The Moonshiner Have you ever bought this type of feed for your chicken's?

One-Ton (2,000 lb) Organic Tote Feed | Nature's Best https://share.google/ZUORjN6lUcdSBgD1J
No. I don't feed organic but looked into a similar deal here for regular layer pellets.
The price would of come out to $1.50- $2 cheaper per bag.
They deliver to TSC. That wouldn't work because I have a 1/2 ton truck and I know I'd break something trying to haul a ton.
Not sure what I would do with it when I got it home. I'd have to like scoop it out, fill something and move to the barn over several trips. I was thinking it's a nice dream but.....
Then I found out they would deliver to your house. Got me thinking again but I found out delivery fee was like $350. Check that to the price of the feed then add in the trouble of getting it put away and it wasn't sounding much like a deal anymore.
About a year later I talked to somebody that bought pig food that way. They said they had been going to Tractor Supply and picking it up but then found out they would deliver to their house for the same they charged to have it delivered to Tractor Supply. Have no reason to doubt that but that didn't make any damn sense either.
I mean it's still a cool idea. How crazy would one be to be buying chicken food by the 1-ton bag.

I just thought that I would ask, because you seem to have alot of them to feed over there.
