The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I thought that might help you to get all of your season's hatching done in one shot. :celebrate
I have my Pepsi bator. I can set 82 eggs a week in it if I wanted.
I have always dreamed of building a walk in incubator though.

Now that would be very interesting to see pictures of it when you get that built.
I can't build it because I couldn't be trusted with it.
I was thinking about making an experimental incubator over the cold months. Just an idea for one I had a year or so ago.

Well, that will give you something constructive to do. I hope it all goes well.

What I really need is a good long list of westerns and western type shows to hole up and watch until that groundhog gives the all clear come spring

And get bored before the groundhog does?

Something tells me that you are not used to sitting around doing nothing.

Well the incubators are all unplugged and ready for cleaning and winter storage.
Here's some numbers...

32 hatches, 1,132 chicks in 2021
25 hatches, 654 chicks in 2022
21 hatches, 1,015 chicks in 2023
22 hatches, 303 chicks in 2024
18 hatches, 420 chicks in 2025

3,524 chicks in 5 seasons

The weather has turned and it's definitely fall. Time to switch gears and prepare for the hell that is a Missouri winter.
Feels like fall is gonna be gone soon enough. :barnie Busy times ahead and everything will surely not get done.

I was thinking this morning as I trudged slowly up to the chicken coop how fun chickens seem in the spring and what a huge mistake they seem in the fall. And how the walk to the coop is just going to get longer and longer…and we don’t even get much snow.

In the spring and summer I jack around while doing feeding and watering and stuff. By fall it's more of lessening pens and finding the easiest most efficient way to get through chores. Come winter it's just survival mood for them and myself. Get out there get them taken care of and get myself back inside before toes or fingers start falling off.
I hate snow when I have to drive but don't mind it when I'm home but I hate frigid cold. Slows everything down, makes everything more of a pain and now a days once I'm frozen it's hard to warm back up.
In winter I usually try to set them up with 2 or 3 days worth of food so I don't have to feed on my work days. That helps but watering sucks. I used the black rubber bowls so I can flip and stomp on them but there will be a lot of them.
Sometimes I use more or bigger then needed so even if frozen I can have space to just add more water. I think this year I should look into being over stocked with some of the bigger ones so i.can get through a few days without worrying so much about frozen ones.
