The Moonshiner's Leghorns

I think I've got plenty of extras. Want me to take them to the county line, turn them loose and point them in your direction.
Never know a couple might make it by Spring.
If I had time to travel I would come and take a few! I may eventually use my silvers to cross into the creles, but the silvers need work themselves first.

The problem is gonna be you'll have to deal with my kid. He cut himself into 50% of my egg sells and I'd imagine he'll be taking majority control by spring.
If he's calling the shots he won't be as easy as me. He's been getting really excited about varieties we have that most don't. And plan crazy over the ones I've made that no one has.
He's been up on the BGDs and the crele projects and when I hatched those chocolate project chicks he was like alright who do we need to call or what do we need to do to get the credit on these. I was just giving him a hard time and rolling with it until he mentioned do we need to make a Tic Tok.
SMH.
Lol, your son is becoming your Marketing Director. He may make you rich and famous. 😉
I asked a couple people that I know around here that sells chicks.
Both said Facebook groups. I'm not a fan of that route but it seems like it's the go to for many now days.
CL is dying off but you might get a few responses there and it's free so not much to lose trying.
Hatching eggs I guess many look on Ebay. Idk if you'd be looking to maybe go that route and ship eggs but it reaches way further then local like chick sells.
Don't I have to be NPIP to ship eggs?

Yes and no. Lots of sellers on eBay are not NPIP. Its very rarely checked from what I hear.

I also hear it doesn't take much to get NPIP tested and certified.

What's going on with the silvers?
They are just small. I am going to put a silver cockerel over some niced size brown leghorn hens to see if I can improve their size. I just hope I don’t inadvertently add autosomal red. I will work on the silver line pure as they are also, just in case.

I will get some pictures of the silvers when they grow their tails in fully. One of the cockerels was a feather picker. 😒

I am NPIP certified and it isn’t hard to get enrolled in your state’s program. Just call your state’s dept of agriculture. Kentucky’s NPIP program is free to enroll. My birds are blood tested for Avian Influenza and orally swabbed for pullorum typhoid every 6 months.

That's happened to me.
It's happened crossing browns and silvers and it also happened when going from BGD to blues. I still get solid blue roosters with red shoulders sometimes. Sucks cause it can take some age before it comes out.

Still just trying to get ahead on winter prep. Yesterday sucked and I didn't get much done. Hello Mother Nature, yesterday started a 30° and peaked at 44°. Today started with 26°. And I wasn't even excited about the forecast of 31°. Supposed to creep up into the lower 50s though then back into the 60s for 5 days so that'll feel nice.
If Mother Nature wasn't bad enough now I got Father Time to deal with. I thought this morning wouldn't be bad because I'd get up on my regular schedule but in reality I'd get to work an hour earlier which would mean getting home an hour earlier which would ease me into the much hated getting dark an hour earlier and cutting into my day. Nope that didn't happen and I don't know why. I don't use an alarm clock and for some reason today by the time I got to work it was the same time on the time clock as usual. There went that hole adding an hour to my day.
Still deep cleaning rubber bowls, Waterers, bucket parts, etc. Just about done with everything except what's in use which unfortunately includes all my chick feeders and the bucket parts that go with those. Those will be a different day. Also trying to get all my brooders cleaned. That's really what got me started on the early cleaning since those are what I never deep clean before winter sets in. I've got chicks in one that will remain there until they get moved to a pen. Chicks and one in the laundry room which will get moved to one in the chick house. That one is set up and ready to go. Still have two brooders that I dumped the chips from but still need a good scrubbing. Of course the power of washer at work is now non-functional.
One thing at work that is still functioning is the badass leaf blower. Brought it home yesterday and blew the dust out of all my incubators. Note to self if done in bedroom there will be a huge dust cloud. Now be using my after dark time to finish cleaning those and putting them up for the winter.
Worked on my pen I was going to put the ducks in for the winter but decided that may be needed for a cockerel pen. I found some chicken wire that's on the dividing wall that isn't going to hold up much longer so I'll replace that then I need to add a bunch of roosting 2x4s and it should be good to go. That'll leave the Ducks where they're at so I'll go ahead and cover the end wall with something. The other end is a different pen where all my old dudes are. I'll cover their end wall too and probably had another 2x4 in there for them to roost on.
Still watching Facebook and still missing out. Missed out on three more freezers. Two just went quickly while I was at work and one was just too far of a drive. A listing went up yesterday for one they were asking 50 bucks for. Would still rather not spend money but it's huge. 18.5 cubic foot. I think the one I got that I considered big is 12 cubic foot.
Need to keep an eye out for cheap 5 gallon buckets. I'd like to get quite a few of those so I can have a bigger variety of sizes for feeder holders. Also need to keep an eye out sales on the 1 gallon water as I use. They have to be airtight to work and I had several that have developed cracks at the seam on the top. I'm pretty much up my bare minimal of what I need right now so..
Lots to do still and I'm trying to mix it up and bounce around from one thing to another so I don't get burned down on any one thing. But yeah that's my plan for the next week or so.
