The Moonshiner's Leghorns

We had medium rare backstrap, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and cornbread for supper last night. My husband and son had the leftovers tonight. We had deer steak a few nights ago. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
We have a friend here that wants to give us some of the elk that he got. I've never had elk before. I'll have to Google how to cook it, I guess.

When my MIL wasaslive, some of her relatives brought her deer meat from their kills. It was good stuff. Sometimes we made chili from the burger, sometimes she cooked the tenderloin different ways. I'd never had deer meat before and I quite liked it! Since she's passed away nobody brings us hunt meat any more. I miss it. Since my GC can't eat it anyway I guess it's no big deal.

Is your GC a vegetarian?

No, she can eat chicken and fish. Before her allergy she used to work at a Japanese restaurant called Fuji's. She now often gets a salmon sushi roll there for lunch. Then we drive over to BK where I get a Whopper jr, lol. Sometimes she gets their Impossible Whopper. We're sorta semi-vegetarians. I'd say we eat plant-based at least 3 or 4 nights a week.

I grind the jerky meat into hamburger meat and use that in chili also. The backstrap is my favorite cut of meat as it is the most tender, like filet mignon. lol 🥰

Oooh I love elk! How you cook it depends on what cut it is but any cut is good in stew. Some cuts are good as steak. If you like deer you will like elk!

Pics from yesterday (except the couple pullets) were from moving cockerels around. I moved about 60 so in the process I threw a few with the different patterns in the box for pics.
My biggest pen with the oldest ones had room so I bumped about 20 into it then 20 from 3rd pen up to 2nd. Still had I mixed pen that was full so pulled biggest cockerels and bumped them to 3rd cockerel pen.
So ya if you could follow that that's three pens with potential chaos. Won't be home today until 4:00 so hopefully things aren't too bad. Really anxious to make sure none of them got the not beat out of them. I watched for three or four hours yesterday and there was some skirmages but the underdogs would just take off to a different part of the pen and everything mellowed out.

Think I'm almost done with getting everything brooder wise cleaned/washed that I can for now. Still have chicks in two brooders so I'll have those brooders to clean still. Both of them have 2 waterers and a feeder each. Lots of the grow outs have several feeders each so still lots to got but it's a waiting game for those. Sure I'll find a few other things I missed too.
Gonna start getting all that stuff packed up probably in my coolers so they don't collect dust all winter.
Trying to inventory everything too so I can purchase needed stuff over the winter. I know I need lots of waterers. I was lacking all this year. I get the Miller 1 gallon ones and several cracked at the seem on the jug part. Once that happens they're useless since they need to be air tight. I have 10 more bottoms then usable tops. I bet 7 or 8 failed this season. That's ridiculous.
Try to stock up on buckets too off marketplace when I find a deal and they're not too far away.
Oh ya and one more freezer and I should be good. Yes just one more for sure. Lots done and lots to go but I'm almost excited about the idea of being ahead of the game and ready to go come hatch season.

So yesterday I was traveling....

I found another Crack dealer!
A Leghorn breeder I didn't know existed
Brown, White, Blue/Black, Furnace, and Cuckoo colours!

So I walked away with 6 blue pullets and a rooster, and 2 furnace pullets. Was all I could fit and pay for at the time.

Pics to come when I get a chance
