The 2 chicks seem to grow 2 white feathers on the ends of their wings and the rest black until they get their breast feathering which is mottled

Odd. Then they get more white as they get older? Are we talking Pekins or LH's?

Mottled should look like they're dipped in white paint. I see a lot of Black Australorp chicks get white feathers like this. BC's sometimes as well.

Definitely update us as this one grows!

Will get some better pics of the other potential mottle over the weekend

Yes that would be my guess... they get whiter as they age.

I had browns that sometimes got some random white like that.but I never got true mottling from them.
Now I have a cuckoo hen that got some and the older she gets the more white she's getting. She doesn't carry mottling so I don't know what causes it.
Can't say what yours is for sure. They will be interesting to watch.
