I find the English variety to have smaller combs than the American trash. But they aren't tiny.

New-ish? I detest them. I have a Chocolate Gold-laced cockerel and I'm thinking about getting rid of him before he's old enough to breed. I think the Chocolate does something very unflattering to the Silver and Gold-laced varieties. I don't mind Isabel Lavender-laced or Lavender Silver-laced, or Blue Silver or Gold-laced though.

I think chocolate gold would be prettier than chocolate silver.

I'm not a huge fan of chocolate though besides individual birds and muscovies

They are unusual looking for sure and not consistent on color and pattern.

Its a gene, but I don't know how much it varies

Generally, fresh molted Chocolates are nearly black. They just lack the sheen. They sun-bleach really badly though, so they lighten up from a dark chocolate to a milk chocolate throughout the season.
