Cuckoo Leghorn pullet. About 12 weeks old
I like em.
Late fall here so nothing exciting going on. I should probably take some pics here and there just to have something to post.
Not sure my plans for next year. Has been harder to get rid of extras and feed prices are still too high so not as easy to hatch 1,000+ then get through winter.
Idk how many birds I have ATM but I'll be reducing numbers drastically over the next several months if I can and get ready for next spring.
All my breeding groups have been broken down and everyone's gone into large winter groups.
Still have 5 smaller brooder groups that I'll combine in another month or two or whenever I free some space up.
Winter is brutal here so I like as few pens as I can get away with so it's less seperate waterers and feeders. My chore time is already cut in half time wise as it was.
It'll soon be just surviving the cold mode for me and them. Hate winters.

So I go out to feed and water yesterday and the barn is full of random juveniles running around. WTH? Oops, door wasn't completely shut on one of my biggest pens. Good news out of around 90 or 100 in there like 10 or 15 didn't find their way out. 🙄
Of course my net was no where to be found since I needed it so I went back and forth from baiting them with a tub of food and snatching them to just flat running them down. Mostly in circles and being bent over to reach them the whole time.
So much for a quick chore day. Only spent a hour or more and I think I got all but two caught.
Went in the house and set down and wouldn't you know 15 minutes later the boy shows up with my net. He said here, Idk why or when I brought this to the house but you might take it back in case you need it sometime.
Ya, thanks boy.

Well…At least you got your net back now, right?

I was thinking about getting brown leghorns and was reading about them in this thread.
Any recommendations on where to find quality hatching eggs?
I have access to white leghorns through the Texas a&m hatching program… 30 eggs for $37, but I don’t particularly want white.
