I just haven't found live traps to be as effective.
Dog proof coon traps work very well. I use them for coons of course but I've caught possums in them as well
Yes that's a good point. I'm from the UK and we can't get dog proof traps here unfortunately! But I agree with you.
Our main problem is foxes and a few nights on the rifle sorts them out for a few months

We have to keep the cats put up when we set traps but we occasionally catch a chicken in a trap. lol We have so many free ranged chickens, so the traps we use have to be non-lethal to them. We can only use leg traps if we set them off before daylight. So “live traps” work well for us. The varmint doesn’t come out of the trap alive though, I assure you.

We have 3 chicks hatched so far from the EE/OE eggs. I’m not there so I can’t really speak on any details. Hatch day is tomorrow so they are getting a head start as usual. Will I be able to tell them apart or is it basically an egg color thing?
Do you mean tell the EEs from the OEs, or tell males from females? If the EE are your standard run of the mill EEs, they will be pea combed and possibly bearded. My OEs are Marans and Legbar mixes so some have a few feathers on their legs and they have small crests. But since both are mixed breeds and various breeds can be used in the mixes, it really just depends on what breeds specifically were used to create them.

So, staying up tonight and checking birds and pens about every hour. The culprit is an opossum. It's was trying to get in the bunker pen and I almost got it with the shovel. Not sure I'll see it again tonight but I'm sticking with my plan.
