The Moonshiner's Leghorns

Out of those 5 first buffs I hatched 4 are cockerels
I guess we will call this the year of the rooster for us both then. I am covered up with them. Out of the 6 Buffs I ordered, there are 4 cockerels and only 2 pullets. 😩

This is my favorite pullet.

Ignore the corn. We are transitioning them to the 18% feed mix we feed the adults and they pick out all the things they like and leave the corn. The rascals. 😆

That's funny. I tried a kind of mixed grain layer feed before and all they wanted to eat was the cracked corn bits.
They acted like it was crack and pretty much ignored the rest. For a bit I tried to leave the rest thinking they'd have to eat it once the corn part was gone.
That pretty much worked but they wouldn't touch some little round brown seeds. But in the end they left a ton of dust stuff which I figured was something important that they added since it wasn't seeds or grain.
I never feed scratch or anything with actual seeds etc anymore. Plain ol boring crumbles then pellets here.

That is so wierd because this group loves the wheat, milo, black oil sunflower seeds, calf manna, and pellets and they leave the corn. Snobs! lol

Maybe its because its because the corn is whole and not cracked. 😆

Mine wouldn't eat it whole when it was hard.... they would flick it out and eat it when it had softened up

You sure that's a brown Leghorn?
Yes I got it from a breeder in columbiaville Michigan. At least, he sold it to us as a brown leghorn.. :D
It is a pullet. It is developing salmon colored breast feathers. Brown Leghorns are sexually dimorphic, meaning the males and females are two different colors. A young male would be developing black breast feathers, while females develop salmon colored breast feathers. Both males and females will tidbit, it is not gender specific.
This is crazy! Thank you so much, that's really a relief because I was almost positive it was a male because of the sheer size of her. I will never hear the end of this from my family LMAO..."I TOLD YOU IT WAS A GIRL, YOU ARE ALWAYS WRONG."🙃
Also thank you for providing pics, that really helps!
