That's where she got hers from 5 years ago.Sandhill has Barred. Sold out til June 10th. Never heard of a Cuckoo leghorn. Barred and Cuckoo are similar feathering. I had Cuckoo Marans and Dominiques, both good breeds.

Well I do like the Browns, but Leghorns are flighty and I think don't do well in confinement? It's their personalities.
You might check with the Livestock Conservancy. They might know of a breeder. Or a breeder of another kind of Leghorn. That's where she got hers from 5 years ago.
Yes, those sound like they might be fun to work with. I'm rural, so I can have roosters too. Hatching egg's works for me and being able to replenish my flock myself. You can message me here at byc on the prices and such.I have some blue gold duckwings. They're like browns but with blue replacing the black.
I haven't been hatching any so I'd have to set up a pen. They breed like BBS so you could hatch browns, blue gold duckwing and splash gold duckwing.
Interested?
Cuckoo and barred is the exact same gene. It's barred on a slow feathering breed and cuckoo on a fast feathering breed. Barred is more crisp and clean because of the slower feather growth.
I would stay far away from sandhill. Especially their leghorns.
I've still got a few cuckoo but I've been mostly working on blue cuckoo. I should have enough regular cuckoo (with any luck) next year I could hook you up with some eggs for her.I would have to agree with you on that about Sandhill, knowing about what she's dealing with the ones that she got from them.
That would be great, and I really appreciate your help. Sorry I took a bit in answering as I emailed my friend about your blue barred that you mentioned. She is happy to be able to get some from you and will wait.I've still got a few cuckoo but I've been mostly working on blue cuckoo. Mine are true 100% leghorn and no sandhill blood.
As for eggs for you it'll take me a minute to get a pen empty and set up for them etc etc but I can let you know and i don't need anything for them except what shipping and packing supplies etc costs.

Do you know me here? That username sounds familiar. You have barred/cuckoo Leghorns? YYYYYEEEESSSSSS!!!! Woot! Woot! Happy tap dance!!!!! I got a quad from a poultry show about 5 years ago, and have been doing my best to breed in the direction of the SOP but the only person I could get any birds from has been Sand Hill. I understand what you're saying. I want some of those eggs next year! Please!!!!!
I used to be a regular on this forum but left because of some have handed moderator deleting perfectly fine posts, but if you have barred Leghorns, I am willing to come out of hiding! (I'm the person Blue Baby mentioned). I have been in the Livestock Conservancy for several years but got nowhere as far as searching out anyone else who has cuckoo Leghorns. I've spent many hours looking on line.
